Today, I wanted to talk about some creative ways you can save money while hanging out with friends.
You might have experienced something like this before. You want to hang out with friends but you’re also trying to save money at the same time. What to do? Here are 3 ways I managed to save money while hanging out with friends the other day at Destiny USA Mall, one of the biggest malls in New York.
1. “Like” a Facebook page to get a discount
We wanted to do a Mystery Room for our hang out. Tickets were $20 a person. I saw this sign at their desk and I thought, “Why not?” I could always “unlike” the facebook right after.
So I “liked” their Facebook page and showed it to them and they gave me the $2 discount for me and The Lavish Lady.
That’s a whopping $4 saved! WOO HOO! The Frugal Monster strikes again, lol.
Lesson: For any hangout, do your research on their facebook or ask them if there are any discounts that you could get. It never hurts to ask.
2. Playing fun games for free
Instead of paying money for games, we happened upon this cool VR experience Microsoft was offering right outside their store. We spent a considerable amount of time lost in the splendor of the VR world. For free, you can try it for 15 minutes per person at a time, and do anything from travel to Greece, watch an interactive IT experience, play Halo and shooting aliens.
Lesson: Look for free entertainment options while out. You never know what you might find.
My buddy and I walked around the mall for a couple of hours while our girlfriends were window-shopping. When I checked the Health app on my iPhone, it said we walked over 3 miles! Wooo! Get healthy while not spending money.
A fun and free diversion was the Microsoft store and the Apple store. They each have the latest gadgets and toys for us to entertain ourselves with while waiting for them to be done shopping.
So there you have it. 3 fun and free, effective, ways to be more frugal while you’re hanging out with friends.
