“Inequality is undoubtedly more readily borne, and affects the dignity of the person much less, if it is determined by impersonal forces than when it is due to design.”
A lot of people would blame their unhappiness on the “system” or the “government” or “other people,” but they oftentimes forget to blame themselves.
They forget that, in the end, no one is forcing you to live a certain way all the time.
We live in a free enough society and a free enough world that you can up and leave if you don’t like a current system.
What is stopping you is fear.
Fear of what will happen to you if you do.
Fear of the unknown.
As the wise and masterful Yoda once said, “Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”
If you choose to stop being afraid, according to Yoda, you will suffer less.
Or in any case, you’ll hate the world and yourself less.
