The Golden Bathroom
It’s super easy to find pictures of the White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) in Chiang Rai from the front, but there’s one cool feature that NO ONE ever talks about. THE GOLDEN BATHROOM!
This has to be one of the better kept secrets of the White Temple complex. Ladies and gents, I present to you the first look inside the Golden Bathroom of Wat Rong Khun.
The curves along the friezes are all done in the Rama 9th style, the ornate, signature style that Ajan Chalermchai, the creator of the White Temple, created as tribute to the late king of Thailand. You can read all about me actually bumping into him and getting his signature here.
The gold is meant to contrast the white of White Temple. Gold represents and symbolizes the body, whereas white symbolizes the mind. Gold symbolizes worldly desires and money.
Definitely one of the coolest bathrooms I’ve been in. Ajan Chalermchai really put thought into designing every corner of his temple complex.
The Silver Hearts
To rest from the hot Thai sun, you can go under these roofs that have thousands of silver hearts on them. We thought it would be a fun idea to buy one and put it up, one part because the money goes back to helping build up the temple, and another part because we wanted our love to be immortalized in the temple.
The Quirky Side of White Temple
Definitely not something you see on the internet relating to White Temple. It’s quirky side consists of anything Ajan Chalermchai deems as cool to have incorporated from modern world culture.
It was so surprising to find these within a couple meters of the White Temple. You can see all of them without having to pay the entry fee, which you’d have to pay only to enter the main White Temple itself.
